Dear Friends, Mentors, Collectors, and Future Patrons,

As the warmth of the summer sun has arrived, we want to invite you to be a part of our practices and projects, which are very close to our hearts. We are hosting a sale of some of our works in order to support our future endeavors. We are not hosting a sale of our works just to sell them; we are hosting a sale of our works in order to support two of our specific needs: a collaborative film project that we wish to embark on, and to help fund José’s visa cost (which would make our future endeavors possible).

The Sale
What are we selling? It really boils down to two things: affordable editions of photographs, and a few unique individual artworks. We have worked extensively to create a variety of high-quality photographic prints stemming from past projects, which can be matted and framed. Each print has been crafted with care and are available at different prices.

The Goal
The costs associated with processing an O1-B “Artist” visa are substantial: $7330 is needed for José’s visa (which include lawyer’s fees and USCIS fees); additionally, we have estimated that we would need roughly $10k for our low budget film, which would primarily cover the cost of travel, renting equipment/locations, and the actors. Our main priority is to get José’s visa covered so that we can continue to work together within close proximity.

In addition to any funding we receive from this sale, we plan to continue applying for other grants through private and public organizations, as we have regularly done so for the completion of previous projects.

What your contribution will support

The Visa
José is currently working on securing an O1-B “Artist” visa, which would enable him to stay and work in the country for periods of up to three years without the need for continuous employment under contract. Any support we can garner would be immensely beneficial. Contributions would help cover the legal fees and application costs.

The Film Project We are working towards a film that thinks through the entanglement of the Caribbean, Latin America, and the U.S; specifically, a fruitless encounter between Lucas Vázquez de Allyón and Hernán Cortés.

Lucas Vázquez, in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, was authorized to create order for the gold mining districts in the West Indies, and later would acquire sugar plantations and fund multiple slave-trading ventures. Around 1519, Vázquez was appointed as a colonial mediator between Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar (in Cuba) and Hernán Cortés (in Mexico); right when Cortés began his campaign to conquer Mexico. His role was to settle tensions between the two conquistadors; his assignment was unfulfilled. It was also around this time, seven years later in 1525, when Vázquez would establish one of the first European colonies in the Eastern United States.

We are planning on creating a film that will be primarily shot in Mexico, but our plan is to also travel to Puerto Rico and within the U.S to film some site-specific scenes.
